Published in 2004 by Blood Letting Press, this is Keene’s second published work after the Rising.

Limited to only 26 leatherbound copies signed by Keene and artist Alan Clark, and housed in an elaborate metal traycase (for which BLP became known). This is letter Q.

A gorgeous and rare production – early Keene and early BLP!”

I HATE HORROR MALL!!!

Now that I have your attention, let me say just the opposite. I LOVE HORROR MALL. Let’s face it folks, if you don’t know by now that we are in a horrendous economic slump (that’s a nice way of putting it) then you have been hiding under a rock. People just do not have the discretionary income they once had, and the majority of my customers still choose food over books…. (well, OK, there are a few who take the books). Bookselling, and even more so, publishing are not ever going to be quick and easy ways to become a millionaire. In fact, in publishing, the only way to become a millionaire is to start out with 1.5 million…….

This past year I have on any number of occasions (and just ask Liz to verify) thrown up my hands in disgust and yelled, “That’s it, I’m through.” Our biggest stumbling block to success at Bad Moon Books was the lack of direct sales. In fact, I told Shane just the other day that HM actually was selling more of my newly announced titles than I was. So, in a time when I was beating my head against a wall on how to increase said direct sales, in come Shane and Larry with an offer to DRAMATICALLY increase my direct sales (and profit) and take over the bookstore in general at Horror Mall. Folks, for this publisher, that was a God-send. Not only did I now have access to Horror Mall’s massive mailing list, but I also have at my finger tips any number of amazing marketing tools.

In case you haven’t noticed, Shane and Larry have built the most user-friendly, customer service oriented, one stop horror shopping place ever. There has never been anything like Horror Mall and it’s multimedia approach to selling and interfacing with customers. Take a minute and just think of all the tools that Shane and Larry have developed. Blogs, forums, chats, publisher stores, obscure presses, lay-a-way, the “points” system, “bill me”, digital downloads, the Horror Mall auction house, the customer support tickets, and I KNOW I’m forgetting some. Every time I talk to Shane on the phone his #1 concern is furthering the genre, and making the customers happy. Another thing that becomes apparent when speaking with Shane is that it is indeed lonely at the top. It seems that there are factions (who will go unnamed) who are constantly taking pot shots at Shane, Larry, and Horror Mall in general. Frankly, I cannot see how HM can be anything but good for authors, customers, publishers, readers; but the naysayers persist.

Shane and Larry have some amazing visions for HM in 2010 and beyond, and I for one, am going to support them and this genre that I deeply love. Small press will always be right at the heart of this genre and Horror Mall continues to be the life support line of the small press. So, continue to support Horror Mall, small press, artists, and the people who make it all work, and let’s keep horror thriving.
