Daemon / Dead And Gone

For anyone wanting to secure a copy of Harry Shannon’s trade paperback novels, Daemon and Dead And Gone, you’ll have a short period before they’re off the market.  Both novels will be going out of print in less than a month.

DAEMON by Harry Shannon

Black Ops specialist Jeff Lehane burned out fast and retired young. He still has nightmares about a bloody mission into Iraq, right on the eve of the war. Yet Lehane reluctantly agrees to assist his ex-wife, who is guarding a Latino rap star. She is killed during the concert, and Jeff soon discovers that someone—or something—has broken into the morgue to eat from her corpse. Outraged, Lehane assembles his former team and they begin to hunt down the ghoul that is stalking Las Vegas.

DEAD AND GONE by Harry Shannon

Unemployed actor Jack Wade takes his comatose wife to an isolated spot in the mountains, a place where a man once murdered his entire family. Frankie was a successful movie producer, but now they have run out of money. This dilapidated cabin is all they have left.

As the long, lonely nights stretch out before him, Jack’s dreams overflow with nightmarish images. The isolation loosens his grip on reality. He believes Frankie is capable of leaving her bed and moving around. And as Jack falls apart inside the cabin, someone or something else begins stalking the woods outside…

Is the mountain evil, the cabin haunted? Or is poor Jack just going insane? Harry Shannon’s disturbing novel is a relentless, non-stop exercise in terror.

Introducing ALTAR 13, New Horror Publisher

Beneath the Horror Mall umbrella there will be a new publishing entity that will make its debut in 2010.  The press is called ALTAR 13 and it’s one I’ve been developing within Horror Mall for the past year.

ALTAR 13 is not a Delirium imprint; it’s a Horror Mall publishing company that will produce fine limited editions for the collectors market.

Here is the information I can release at this point:

  • ALL Altar 13 titles will be produced in limited runs of 100 hardcover copies. No other editions or copies will be produced except as follows: copies 1-13 will be bound in genuine soft leather, double-slipcased. Copies 14-100 will be bound in premium buckram with dust jackets.
  • Altar 13 will be focused on bringing collectors books that have never been released in hardcover.
  • Those that are fans of Delirium productions will want these, as Altar 13 will use the same durable bindings and material, including the natural soft genuine leather for the 13 deluxe copies.
  • Each edition will contain exclusive bonus fiction never published in the original publication.
  • Cover prices will ultimately be based on demand for the books. Limiteds (14-100) will begin at $65 for the first title. The deluxe copies (1-13) will be $265.
  • No lifetime subscriptions will ever be taken for this press.
  • No dealer copies will be available.
  • Auctions will be held for lifetime first rights of refusal for each number. Winning bidders for each number will own first rights of refusal for that number for the life of the press. They will NOT be obligated to purchase every edition, but will have first chance to secure their number of every title announced from Altar 13. These auctions have started tonight with copy #1 at the Horror Mall auction site. All auctions will start at $1.  There will be a reserve set for the 13 deluxe editions.  There will be no reserve for the remaining 87 copies.
  • Altar 13 plans to publish quarterly, but the number of titles produced per year will ultimately depend on demand. If demand is high, there may be more than 4 titles per year.

OWNERSHIP AUCTIONS

Each number will be auctioned off through the Horror Mall auction site. These auctions are NOT lifetime memberships.  Winning bidders will not be getting any books; they will be purchasing ownership of the number upon the terms of first rights of refusal for every title published by Altar 13. Each edition will need to be purchased at cover cost unless refused.  In the case of refusal, the copy of that title will be sold to another party through Horror Mall.  Certificates will be issued from Horror Mall to the winning bidders.  Owners of each number may sell their number to another party, but this must be done publicly through the Horror Mall auction site and auction commissions will apply to the sale.

The only copies Altar 13 will ever match for customers will be the ones won via the auction through ownership of first rights of refusal. In the event that there are copies that do not get purchased via the auction, these will be released to the general public on a title to title basis (matching numbers will NOT be granted as these will be issued randomly). Any copies refused by owners will be sold to the public at cover price for each title (all proceeds go to Horror Mall).

FUTURE TITLES

Although I can’t make any official announcements just yet, there are 3 titles that have been contracted through Altar 13 so far.  Two that have contracts signed, one that is still yet to be officially filed.

Of those two, here’s the scoop:

KINGDOM OF SHADOWS by Greg F. Gifune.

This will be the ONLY limited of this book produced.  And not only will you get the first hardcover edition of KINGDOM OF SHADOWS, it will also come with a BONUS NOVELLA called SORCERER.  A 23,000-word original story that was just turned in by Gifune.  This will be the only print edition of this novella of any kind.

Here’s a little more about SORCERER:

Times are tough.  Jeff McGrath has recently lost his job, and he and his wife Eden are having trouble making ends meet.  Saddled with a mountain of growing bills, the prospect of being evicted from their apartment and an enigmatic homeless man who lives on the steps of their building and seems inexplicably drawn to the young couple, things look exceedingly bleak.  But when one afternoon Jeff meets a beautiful businesswoman who wants to recruit him for a high-paying job at an internationally-renowned company owned by the wildly successful CEO Foster Hope, he thinks his luck may be changing.  But what initially seems like the break of a lifetime soon becomes an unimaginable nightmare Jeff may never escape.  Because an evil as ancient and elusive as the sands of time has come calling, nothing is as it seems, nothing happens by accident or chance, and one man’s dream-come-true may very well be another man’s descent into inconceivable horror.

Careful what you wish for…evil has many names…

DEPRAVED by Bryan Smith

Visitors are more than welcome in the isolated rural town of Hopkins Bend. The town needs them for their annual sacrifices…and entertainment. Now outsiders have stumbled into the town’s traps. Some will be held for their captors’ perverse, degrading amusement, but some will face a far more gruesome end at the yearly Holiday Feast. The townspeople hope their unholy ritual will protect them from the curse that befell the Kincher family. For more than a century the Kinchers have been changing, mutating, becoming gradually less human. And at the center of it all lies the dark secret, the malignant evil that controls Hopkins Bend and has made its residents truly…DEPRAVED.

The Altar 13 edition of Depraved will include new cover art and bonus fiction and non-fiction relating to the novel.

New Tom Piccirilli: COLD COMFORT Excerpt

Now available through the Darkside Digital shop is Delirium latest release, a digital-only novella by Tom Piccirilli. This will be the only edition released of this title.

You can check it out and download a free excerpt of chapter one at the following link:

https://www.horror-mall.com/COLD-COMFORTS-by-Tom-Piccirilli-Digital-Edition-p-20349.html

Here’s a little bit more about the novella…

After years toiling in obscurity, Thomas, a crime fiction author, is finally able to leave personal tragedy and poverty behind. A Hollywood benefactor has offered him a chance at success and celebrity. But deadly trouble looms when a beautiful woman comes between them. And Thomas discovers that the pain that drives him and ghosts haunting him aren’t content with staying in the past, but begin to appear in the night at every turn.

Incapable of distinguishing the dead from the living, his life from fantasy, Thomas tries to navigate his way through a bloodstained landscape of lust and murder.

Long After Dark by Greg F. Gifune Up For Preorder

It’s now available to the general public, but not for long.  As of this posting, only 8 copies of the limited edition and 5 copies of the lettered edition are available.

After listening to customers and other advisers I have decided to include a dust jacket with mylar protector for all Delirium 2010 limited editions, including this one. The binding material will remain of the upgraded nature, the color will be uniform for all 2010 titles, differing from the 2009 binding material color. Lastly, there will be a slipcase for sale to house all 4 titles at year’s end, for those of you who’d like to match these as sets. No price increase. :)

Hardcover subscribers remain largely split between those that prefer DJs and those who do not. So I hope this presents the best alternative for all parties involved, as it’s a complete package on both sides. I know I was one who fell on the side that didn’t care for DJs, but my plans are to take off the DJs and house the books in the slipcase at year’s end, as intended. The slipcase will be customized to fit the books with or without DJs…totally your choice.

Harry Fremont hasn’t slept in days. He’s down with a terrible flu: runny nose, fever, a sore throat, the chills, and worst of all, a horrible cough that keeps him up all night. His wife Kelly is away on a business trip and their son Garret is at college, leaving Harry alone in the house. Though worn out, Harry has been unable to sleep…and things are starting to change. He’s seeing unusual things outside, just beyond the windows and confines of his home…hearing things…experiencing unsettling things that make no sense. And they’re getting worse.

Are they simply figments of a tortured and exhausted mind, or clues to an intricate mystery steeped in evil and deception Harry cannot yet comprehend? Haunted by remnants of earlier nightmares, disturbing questions about his life and marriage, strange shadowy figures, odd noises, cryptic writings on his doors and glimpses of a hideously disfigured being wrapped in bloody bandages, Harry free-falls into a horrifying world of paranoia, agony and terror where nothing is what it seems.

Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us…long after dark.

Delirium Production Input: The Great Dust Jacket Debate

As I’m less than a week away from moving this year’s first Delirium title to the binding stage, I’m asking for some input from Delirium hardcover subscribers.

Would you like to see Delirium’s 2010 titles with or without dust jackets?

Leave me a note in the comments section below (if you’re reading this on the Horror Mall forums, please leave input on the blog comments section, not in the forums).  This isn’t a discussion, it’s a gathering of feedback from hardcover subscribers.

Please make sure you leave your real name and correct e-mail when posting comments.  And note that if this is your first comment on this blog, it will be held for moderation, but will appear once approved.

Comments from those that aren’t current hardcover subscribers will be deleted.

Why am I asking? It seems that although the hardcover subscription remains sold out, only 1/3 of the subscriptions are being housed as a set in the slipcase. I believe the new direction (no dust jackets) is most effective as a set of each year’s books housed together.

I’ll be taking feedback on this through the weekend before I make a final decision early next week.

So it’s a chance for your voice to make an impact on the future production of Delirium limiteds.

So let me know your thoughts and the reasons why…

Delirium Books Website Downtime, Changes

Just wanted to post a notice that the Delirium website (www.deliriumbooks.com) will be going down for a day or two.  I have decided to consolidate news and information into a single site between Horror Mall and Delirium.  This will make it easier for me to post news and also easier for everyone who’s interested to have one single source to get the latest scoop on all things Delirium. So once the site goes back online, it will direct all traffic to the following URL:

http://www.horror-mall.com/deliriumbooks.

All news and announcements will be made via Delirium’s blog at Horrorgy which can be found here:

http://www.horror-mall.com/horrorgy/category/store/store-delirium/

Delirium fans can join the newsletter which is hosted by Horror Mall at the following link:
